WEB PASSPORT PHOTO REQUIREMENTS

All WEB PASSPORT applications must include a recent passport photograph that meets the following criteria:

- recent;

- 45 millimetres (mm) x 35 millimetres (mm);

- a close-up of your head and shoulders so that your face covers approximately 65 to 75% of the photograph;

- taken against an off-white, cream or light grey plain background so that your features are clearly distinguishable against the background; and

- of you on your own (no toys, dummies or other people visible).

The photographs must:

- be in sharp focus and clear;

- have a strong definition between the face and background; and

- be scanned at 1200dpi resolution or better if they are digital or scanned photographs.

The photographs must show:

- no shadows;

- your full face, looking straight at the camera:

- a neutral expression, with your mouth closed;

- your eyes open and clearly visible (with no sunglasses or heavily tinted glasses, and no hair across your eyes);

- no reflection on your spectacles, if you wear them, and the frames should not cover your eyes. We recommend that you remove your glasses to avoid these problems;

- your full head, without any head covering, unless it is worn for religious beliefs or medical reasons; and

- your face uncovered.

How do I prepare a scanned digital image of my photograph?

In order to prepare a digital image of your photograph using a scanner, you would require:

To Prepare a Digital Image of Your Photograph

Step 1:

Obtain a colour photograph of yourself that meets the specifications listed above.

Step 2:

Place your photograph face down on the glass bed of the scanner.

Step 3:

Once you are ready, you can either scan the image or use the preview function to view the image of your photograph. You would need to specify the area to be scanned by using your mouse to click and drag over the area that should be scanned.

Note:Note: This is to avoid a situation where the whole page is scanned resulting in only a small image of yourself.

Step 4:

Once the scan button is clicked again, you will be able to view on your monitor a clear image of your photograph.

Note:

No alteration, removal, amendment or enhancement of the photo image of the passport applicant's natural facial features are allowed. This includes removal or addition of birth marks, mole or tattoo etc. that constitutes the permanent facial feature of the applicant.
